Dada Life - Interview
Dada Life just want to make you jump up and down. Then make you crash into a wall with a smile on your face. The formula has been a winner since the start.
In summer 2006 Dada Lifereleased "Big Time" on Mylo's label Breastfed and DJ:s all over got theirfirst take on the duo. Since then there has been a steady stream of hitrecords: "The Great Fashionista Swindle", "Vote Yes" and "Fun Fun Fun". Played by everyone from Crookers, Tiësto, Eric Prydz to David Guetta -and featured on tons of compilations. ("Fun Fun Fun" even made it to #11 inthe commercial single chart in Belgium.) Dada Life have also remixed artists such as Laidback Luke, Maskinen, Alex Gopher and John Acquaviva.
This Saturday they make their debut Scottish performance as the support act for Tiësto at The Highland Hall, Ingliston. We caught up with the guys to find out what they’ve got in store for us……
Where in the world do we find you today?“
All over. Right now we’re in our studio in Stockholm, but soon an US-tour as well as dates all over Europe…”
What can you see out your window?“
Nothing. There’s no window in the studio. It’s like a cell. Keeps us effective.”
How has life been treating you in 2010?“
Good so far! But this year has just started…”
For people who may not have heard of Dada Life, tell us a bit about your style and what you’re all about….“
We sound like crashing to the floor with a smile on your face. It’s all about doing the Dada.“
You’re supporting Tiësto on his upcoming UK dates, are you excited?“
We already played with him at his US-tour in November, so we know what to expect… He also knows what to expect…Muhahaha!”
Tell us about ‘Just Do The Dada’… How long did the album take to create and what was the writing process involved?“
It went fast. We always work really fast. And then we start arguing about the details – which takes really long time. But to write the tunes usually goes fast.”
Are you pleased at how well the album has been received?“
Yep. Our fans are so nice to us. We’re just waiting for that to change…”
Which is your own personal favourite from the album?“
Hard to say. Right now we’re working on brand new tracks, so all those tunes feel kind of old to us… It’s always like that with music. When something is released, we are always thinking of the next track or album.”
Do you have any more hot remixes due out that you can tell us about?“
Oh yeah. Don’t miss our brand new remix of Dan Blacks track Symphonies ft Kid Cudi.”
You’re playing Scotland for the first time next month. Are you planning on visiting the sites?“
No plans. We’re open to anything. And we mean it.”
Have you heard any stories from fellow DJs about their experiences of playing to Scottish crowds in the past?“
Nooo. Do we need to be afraid?”
Will you be staying around to check out Tiësto’s set on the night?“
We always stay to the bitter end.”
If you could remix any artist in the world, who would it be?“
Don’t know… Little Richard?”
What’s your favourite tune in your CD wallet at the moment?“
Something brand new from us. Maybe ”Cookies with a Smile” or our brand new take on Benny Benassi’s classic…”
If you could play back to back with any DJ in the world, what club would it be in, who would it be and why?“
Some rave around 1989 would have been fun to play at. Together with Aphex Twin! We would have had a lot of fun.”
What was the last non-dance album you purchased?“
Joanna Newsom’s new album. Brilliant.”
Finally, what can the people at Tiësto’s ‘Kaleidoscope World Tour’ expect on March 6th?“
Bananas and Champagne. That’s all we need to keep going.”
Thanks. See you in March!
